Farmworker Jaimie Alanis died from injuries he sustained last week during an ICE raid when he fell from a greenhouse roof, which he had climbed onto to avoid being detained. Alanis had been the sole provider for his family living back in Mexico.
Glass House, the owner of the greenhouse, said it was providing legal representation for the 200 people detained in the raid, including 10 immigrant children. Glass house stated that “it has never knowingly violated applicable hiring practices and does not and has never employed minors.”
Four U.S. citizens were arrested attempting to block the ICE raid, including Rebecca Torres, who stood in front of a large truck to stop it from moving forward. I wish to express condolences to the family of Jamie Alanis; and thanks to Glass House for helping their detained workers, and to the U.S. citizen protesters who attempted to stop the raid.
